City Ride

Type:  Road
Difficulty: Beginners
Distance: 45.2km
Elevation Gained: 135m
Estimated Moving Time: 1-2 hours

Summary

If you’re not from Brisbane, you might be surprised to learn that the airport is just a short drive from the city—less than an hour! This proximity makes it a favorite local loop for cyclists.

The route boasts a minimal elevation gain of only 135 meters round-trip, making it a fantastic option for a recovery ride or a quick morning spin on flat terrain.

However, there’s a catch: the airport area is bustling with traffic. But don’t worry—timing is key to enjoying this route.

For the best experience, we recommend starting your ride early in the morning, around 5 a.m., and wrapping up before the day gets busy.

Aside from the traffic, this flat ride is highly enjoyable. It’s perfect for a gentle recovery ride or even a time trial training session. The route features a long, straight stretch and offers the option to extend your ride to nearby areas like Nudgee, Redcliffe, and Scarborough to the north, or Wynnum, Manly, Cleveland, and Wellington Point to the south via the Gateway Bridge.

One important note: as this route runs close to the Port of Brisbane, you’ll encounter some large trucks. So, stay alert and enjoy the ride!

Tips:

-. Start the ride early in the morning to avoid busy road and traffic at the airport.

-. Follow the route uploaded going back to the city instead of going the same way (safer)

-. Stop at the viewing platform to enjoy the view of the planes landing.
