The Great Queensland Roam - Local Loop

partnering with: Audax Queensland

Queensland has long been known for its sunshine, stunning coastlines, and diverse landscapes — but for cyclists, it holds something even more special.

From quiet backroads and rolling countryside to challenging hinterland climbs and breathtaking coastal stretches, Queensland offers some of the most rewarding riding experiences in Australia. Yet, much of it remains undiscovered beyond the local cycling community.

At Pedal Brisbane, our goal is simple:
to showcase Queensland as a cycling destination in Australia.

We believe the best way to truly experience a place is by bike,  where every climb is earned, every descent is felt, and every kilometer tells a story.

Through The Great Queensland Roam, we’re creating more than just cycling events. We’re building a platform that brings riders together to explore, connect, and experience the state in a way that no other form of travel can offer.

By designing routes that highlight the best of what Queensland has to offer. From the bays of Brisbane to the ranges of the hinterland and beyond, we aim to attract cyclists not only from across Australia, but from around the world.

This is about putting Queensland on the map.
Not just as a destination, but as a must-ride destination.

Introducing the First Edition: Local Loop

The inaugural edition of The Great Queensland Roam is Local Loop, delivered in partnership with Audax Queensland.

For those unfamiliar, Audax is a globally recognised long-distance cycling community built around self-supported endurance riding, where riders challenge themselves over extreme distances within set time limits.

The Local Loop Challenge

Local Loop is designed to push limits while showcasing the best of cycling in South East Queensland.

The Numbers:

  • Distance: 1000km
  • Elevation: 15,000m+
  • Time Limit: 75 hours
  • Format: Ultra endurance, self-supported ride

This is not your average cycling event — it’s a true ultra endurance cycling challenge in Australia.

A Route Built by Locals, for Riders

The concept behind Local Loop is simple but powerful:

Bring together the roads that locals love into one unforgettable loop.

From rolling countryside to iconic climbs, this route connects the best riding across South East Queensland into a single continuous journey.

It’s a ride that reflects the local cycling culture — the early morning rollouts, the hidden backroads, the climbs that test you, and the views that reward you.

More Than a Ride — A Story in Motion

The Great Queensland Roam isn’t just about distance — it’s about storytelling.

Throughout the event, we will capture:

  • Rider preparation and training journeys
  • Real-time updates during the ride
  • Photos and videos from across the route
  • Post-ride reflections and highlights

This creates a deeper connection between riders, the event, and the audience — turning every kilometre into part of a larger story.

What is The Great Queensland Roam?

The Great Queensland Roam is a cycling event series built around one simple idea:

The best way to explore Queensland is by bike.

Our mission is to position Queensland as one of cycling destination in Australia, attracting local, national, and international riders to discover its diverse landscapes, vibrant communities, and iconic roads.

From the blue coastal bays to the green hinterland climbs, every route is carefully designed to deliver a complete riding experience — challenging, immersive, and deeply rewarding.

A Different Kind of Cycling Event in Australia

Unlike traditional races, The Great Queensland Roam is focused on exploration, endurance, and experience.

Throughout the year, we will host a series of rides including:

  • Single-day cycling adventures
  • Multi-day endurance rides
  • Regional exploration routes across Queensland

Each event highlights different parts of the state, from the city streets of Brisbane to the quiet, scenic roads of regional Queensland.

This is about more than finishing times.
It’s about the journey, the places, and the stories you collect along the way.

How the Ride Works

Local Loop follows a structured endurance format inspired by Audax principles:

  • Riders must complete the full route within 75 hours
  • The official course must be followed at all times
  • 10 control points (checkpoints) are positioned along the route
  • Riders must validate their brevet card at each checkpoint

This ensures every rider completes the full experience as intended.

Support, Self-Reliance & Rules

This is a self-supported endurance ride, meaning preparation is key.

Riders are expected to:

  • Manage their own nutrition, hydration, and rest between checkpoints
  • Be self-reliant throughout the journey
  • Follow all road rules and ride safely

To support riders along the way:

  • Food and drinks will be available at selected checkpoints
  • External support is only permitted at designated control points

This balance creates a true endurance experience — challenging, but achievable.

Why Ride The Great Queensland Roam?

Because this is what cycling in Queensland is all about.

  • Diverse landscapes in one ride
  • A supportive and passionate cycling community
  • A challenge that pushes your limits
  • An experience you won’t forget

Whether you’re chasing your next ultra endurance goal or looking to explore new roads, The Great Queensland Roam offers something truly unique in the Australian cycling scene.
