Combining smooth tarmac with scenic gravel, this route winds through quiet countryside, delivers relentless double-digit climbs, and rewards you with spectacular views. It’s a ride that’s as mentally demanding as it is physically, living up to its name: Steep, Stunning & Savage.

Brisbane to Narangba

The route kicks off from Brisbane, heading north through the undulating terrain of Kelvin Grove and Strathpine, then toward Petrie, skirting the peaceful Lake Kurwongbah.

  • Tip: Start early for quieter roads—Kelvin Grove gets busy later in the day.

  • Options: Fuel up at a servo en route or grab a coffee at Narangba Station.

 

Narangba to Dayboro Rd

From Narangba Station, turn onto Browns Rd, a “no through road” with a hidden bike path leading to the first gravel stretch on Theodore Rd—1km of scenic rollers with gradients reaching 10%.

  • Warning: Dayboro Rd has fast traffic—ride single file until Strong Rd.

Strong Rd to Mt Samson Rd

A scenic highlight. Tarmac climbs give way to peaceful gravel paths lined with open farmland—watch out for cows! The route rejoins Mt Samson Rd, taking you toward Dayboro.

  • Stop: Dayboro Café—highly recommended before tackling the real elevation.



The Brutal Back Half

Kobble Creek & Armstrong Creek
  • Kobble Creek starts strong with an 800m climb maxing at 14%.

  • Armstrong Creek follows—3km that looks tame on paper (4% average) but hits a savage 23%. A true wall.

Kriesch Rd
  • A series of short, sharp climbs—each under 1km but with gradients hitting 16%. Expect constant rollers with plenty of 12–13% pinches.

Old Mt Samson Rd
  • The shortest climb of the three big ones, but it still hits hard with double-digit gradients.

Gibson Rd to Samford
  • More rolling hills add another 4km of effort before your second stop at Samford servo—stock up on water and food.


 

The Final Push to Brisbane

Camp Mountain Rd to Sutton Ct
  • The last long climb. From McLean Rd S to Sutton Ct, expect repeated punches over 15%, including a tough section past Lochinvar Rd.
